LAURA NEADLE WALSH is an artist who works primarily in watercolor. Her subject matter includes landscape, still life, and lately the human figure and people doing everyday activities. Laura lives just south of the border of the Adirondack Park, and spends a great deal of time painting at various sites in the Park, and in her studio in Glens Falls.
Painting is a way of expressing part of our inner selves and our world. Laura feels that there are things that simply cannot be expressed in any other way than by drawing or painting. The sites, sounds, and feelings one has when experiencing nature can be found in her work: the solitude of a hike through the woods, the sound of a stream rushing over rocks, and the silent watch of the mountains over the vast collection of rivers and lakes. Still life can be the things around us, such as a pile of shoes, or freshly picked flowers. More personal subjects such as her family are attempts to reveal her world and the messages waiting there. Laura uses two methods of watercolor. The first is the traditional approach on watercolor paper. The second is painting on a surface prepared with gesso, a primer. In the past few years she has offered prints of some of her work, which are high quality reproductions with a light-fastness of 80 years. Laura has studied with several artists, including John Gallucci, Don Getz, Judi Betts, Karen Rosasco, and Richard Ochs. She studied Fine Art at Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania, and has a Masters degree in teaching from Plattsburgh State University. She teaches watercolor classes throughout the year at her studio in Glens Falls. |
